Manager of Operations

VII Academy promotes, teaches, and fosters high-quality journalism in the Majority World and in underrepresented communities in G20 countries by providing tuition-free media education and training. 

We are looking for a Manager of Operations to join our team in Sarajevo.

Requirements:

  • A master multi-tasker with excellent communication skills and an upbeat attitude, generally being a helpful, reliable and positive presence in the workplace. Most importantly, should have a genuine desire to meet the needs of others. Able to work on flexible hours. At ease with working in an international environment. Ability to work well under limited supervision. Always prepared and responsive, willing to meet each challenge directly.
  • An understanding of basic Accounting principles is required, as well as proficiency with computers and software, such as Excel and ideally Quickbooks.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in word processing, spreadsheets. Ability to work both in Microsoft and MAC environments. Asana, AirTable a plus.
  • Fully proficient in English, excel at both verbal and written communication.
  • A bachelor's degree is required, as well as prior experience in office administration/office management.

Main responsibilities:

  • Handle organizational and clerical support tasks. This includes organizing and maintaining office common areas. Handling phone calls and other communications, greeting visitors including students, as well as managing files, updating paperwork, scheduling appointments, setting up meetings, organizing domestic and international travel, maintaining office equipment and supply inventory as needed.
  • Basic bookkeeping, including: data entry, processing and recording transactions, preparing financial reports and budgets, following up on realized versus budget, assisting with audits or fact-checking, resolving discrepancies. 
  • Coordinating events (especially educational workshops, exhibitions), handling all pre-event logistics including imports and deliveries, organizing the event, greeting visitors during the event, handling all post-event logistics.
  • Writing copy, proofreading, finalizing documents, creating official presentations, producing management-level reports, conducting research, drafting new contracts, drafting budgets.
  • Creating, maintaining and entering information into databases.
  • Help raise funds for the organisation: Research potential sponsors, assist in writing funding proposals, assist in pitching in to open calls, generate ideas to organize campaigns that will lead to donations, look into developing the organization's professional relationships.
